About

I have some diverse interests and this blog will try to cover them. I have created categories to help organize posts. Or, just read it all. You are welcome to comment or to reach out in other ways. My contact info is at the bottom of this page.

About Me

I was born in Galesburg, Illinois. My family is from Illinois. I moved to California in 2014 for the opportunities a new job brings. I found my first and only wife and we had a beautiful son.

I was born in the early seventies, most of my early memories are of going to Grandpa and Grandma’s house and helping Grandpa work on what ever project he was working on. Or helping Grandma with cooking, or canning.

We moved a lot when I was in my early teens. Mom had a thing about moving around. We spent some time in Florida and Idaho.

I have 2 sons, the first is a step son from my wife’s side. The second is our first and only son together. Medical complications prevent more.

Amateur Radio

I have been a licensed ham since about 2003 as a Technician Class, call sign N9VPU. In 2016 I got a vanity call sign and now I’m K6BKD.

I’m mostly active on VHF/UHF – Analog and UHF/DMR.  Since I’m new to the area and DMR in general I tend to not get on the radio that much, other than to listen. I listen on some talk groups using my TYT MD-380 UHF DMR Radio.

I have these amateur radio profiles: BrandMeister Profile – QRZ Profile

Mesh networking is somewhere in the future as my next big project, I’ll add a link to my node when I get it running.

Clubs

I’m a member of the Citrus Belt Amateur Radio Club (CBARC) and a life member of the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL).

I’m a recent member of the The PAPA System, 15 hilltops with 42 repeaters covering all of Southern California with analog, DMR, and D-Star repeaters.

Elmering for the Coyote Amateur Radio Club at California State University, San Bernardino.

Technology

Who doesn’t love technology? I work in the Enterprise and Cloud Services Department of Information Technology Services Division at California State University, San Bernardino. Outside of work, there are just so many things to talk about — phones, Smart Watches, 3D Printers, Raspberry Pi, IoT, and so many more. Keep your eyes on this category for a wide array of interesting topics.
